Subject: Queensland, NSW, NT & Tas Hunters - RSPCA Campaign

Dear Member and Fellow Hunter,

You would have received the special Field & Game Newsletter recently. As you probably would have noticed, the main tone of the campaign was directed at the Victorian fight to combat the RSPCA Campaign.

Field and Game recognise that this is a national campaign by the RSPCA and as such wish to inform you that you, your state and your right to hunt in your state has not been forgotten.

This letter is to inform you that Field and Game Australia intends to fight, and indeed has been fighting to either retain your right to hunt, as in Queensland and fighting for the reinstatement of recreational gamebird hunting in NSW.

As each State has a different criteria in relation to their fight for the retention of hunting or the reinstatement of Gamebird hunting, Field and Game are advising you of the tactics necessary for the various states.

In NSW, we are fighting to reinstate recreational Gamebird .

In Queensland, it is hopeful that a Gamebird season will be declared. That should all have come to a head at a meeting on the 21st March.

Field and Game Australia is working with State political parties, local hunting organisations and interested parties.

Field & Game believe that Queensland is the most vulnerable of states and to that end we are enlisting the help of these organisations.

Waterfowlers and hunters of all persuasions MUST ensure that politicians and the RSPCA is made aware of our attitude and we need to communicate this to them.

Our main threat is the review of the Queensland 5 year Gamebird Management Program. That is up for review and the RSPCA and Animal Rights groups have been doing a lot of lobbying. Although thier campaign may have caught hunting organisations by surprise, it has not taken long for us to make up the ground that we appeared to have surrendered by default.

Along with other hunting organisations, our contacts within some union organisations we have been able to claw back a lot of the momentum built up by our opponents.

The experience from our tactics in Victoria is a MASSIVE telephone, mail and fax onslaught of ALL RSPCA Offices throughout the state.

We believe that this campaign has resulted in a grass roots revolt against the national executive of RSPCA.

Field and Game Australia would like to see members and hunters harass the RSPCA via fax, phone, mail and email and advise them that you, your family and friends WILL not ever support the RSPCA in anyway financially in the future.

Another tactic would be to organise your family, friends and fellow hunters to demand the removal of any RSPCA Donation Receptacle from any business that you utilise and inform them that unless it is removed that neither you or your family will ever do business with them until such time as it is removed.

Queensland is a different matter, as their Gamebird Management plan is up for review. It appears that the Minister for Environment & natural Heritage is adamant that he would like to see the abolition of Recreational Gamebird hunting.

Before contacting them, please be sure to read our documents: "DUCK HUNTING: the Facts not the emotion" and critique of the proposed ban on Duck Hunting in South Australia. Both can be found by going to the Field & Game website at http://www.fieldandgameaustralia.org/campaign

You and your right to hunt in your state WILL be fought by Field & Game Australia and we will not give up until we have achieved our aims.

Following is a State by State Action Plan

New South Wales

Read the following documents:

Duck Hunting "The Facts not the Emotion"

The Proposed Ban on Duck Hunting in South Australia

The latter document was used in the fight to retain hunting in South Australia and if possible email these links to your politicians.

Because of the situation where the Government is having an independent review of the Richard Jones "Duck Bill", it is of less importance to attack the Carr Government.

Our tactics should be directed at the RSPCA in that state and try to force a grass roots revolt by that organisations supporters and membere.

NSW Politicians

We have listed the major politicians, it should be incumbent on all hunters to contact their local MPs and voice their concerns.

Encourage fellow hunters to purchase Game Licenses. This alone has probably led to the push to ban hunting due to low numbers of duck hunters.

Remind the Labor Politicians that Richard Jones had promised support for a Labor legislative intiative and reneged on his promise of support for that Bill, which was eventually defeated.

Read the following documents:

Duck Hunting "The Facts not the Emotion"

The Proposed Ban on Duck Hunting in South Australia

The latter document was used in the fight to retain hunting in South Australia and if possible email these links to your politicians.

Two main points that the RSPCA are focusing on are:

The Number of Ducks wounded and a Computer Simulation Wounding Model. Politicians should be informed that this "Wounding Model" has been discredted by reputable ballistics experts in Great Britain.

Also let them know of the economic benefits to the rural communities. They should ask the government to delay the review on the grounds that NSW are undertaking a review on game bird hunting in that state on scientific grounds to see whether game bird hunting is to be reintroduced. The licensing system in QLD does not work in the rural areas, insufficient staffing levels to police it, if it is banded the only ones it will effect are those hunters that live in proximity to coastal areas were it is policed. They should adopt the phase in of no toxic shot and management practices that are in line with Vic and SA That Field & Game Australia will encourage Recreational Game Bird Hunters to purchase Game Licenses that will, over time increase revenue that can be spent on rehabilkitation of Wetlands. That Field & Game Australia members are prepared to do voluntary works on Wetlands.

Queensland

Our tactics should be directed at the RSPCA in that state and try to force a grass roots revolt by that organisations supporters and membere.

Members also need to take a more aggressive approach to the political side of the argument, as it appears the the Minister seems to be talking the same language as the Animal Rights organisations.

Threaten them with your voting power.

These tactics are as for NSW except with some slight variation.

ACTION THE RSPCA

Following is a list of actions:

The experience from our tactics in Victoria is a MASSIVE telephone, mail and fax onslaught of ALL RSPCA Offices throughout the state.

We believe that this campaign has resulted in a grass roots revolt against the national executive of RSPCA.

Field and Game Australia would like to see members and hunters harass the RSPCA via fax, phone, mail and email and advise them that you, your family and friends WILL not ever support the RSPCA in anyway financially in the future.

This should be your main focus. Get as many of your friends, family and hunting mates to contact at least 2 or 3 and threaten them with withdrawal of donations and if members, resignation from the organisation.

Another tactic would be to organise your family, friends and fellow hunters to demand the removal of any RSPCA Donation Receptacle from any business that you utilise and inform them that unless it is removed that neither you or your family will ever do business with them until such time as it is removed.

The best way to fight them is to hit them where it will hurt most. In the hip pocket!
