Thought I'd share how my first field test with the 6mm Nosler Ballistic
Tip turned out. The antelope was hit about 1/3 of the way in from the back
of the rib cage. The bullet was travelling towards the opposite shoulder.
It hit about the 3rd rib in, and went through the rib. Where it went from
there, I'm not sure. In fact, I'm not sure how the critter died, but he didn't
take even one step. The bullet deflected off the rib and may have gone straight
across the rear of the lungs. There was a slight tear in the stomach at the
forward edge. And, profuse bleeding inside. I couldn't see much trauma to
the organs when I gutted it. It obviously cut a mjor artery or vein. The
bullet did not blow up. I found a small hole on the opposite side hide that
looked like an entrance hole, but was not.
Result? Not sure how the terminal bullet performance was. My earlier concern
about Ballistic Tips blowing up definitely didn't happen. The new Nosler
Ballistic Tip Bullets seem to be made tougher than a few years ago. I'd heard
this was the case and have seen no blow-up on animals other hunters have
shot.
