Here's my -bq sauce recipe. I suppose it might be a bit on the tangy side, but you can give it a try and see what you think.
Ingredients:
1 quart of ketchup
1 cup of lemon juice
3/4 cup of brown sugar
3/4 cup of Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup of vinegar
3 tablespoons of black pepper
1 teaspoon of fine grind cayenne pepper
Method:
Mix the ingredients and bring slowly to a full boil, then reduce heat and simmer for at least 10 minutes, then turn off the heat. It keeps well without refrigeration, but I like to make a gallon or so at a time and can it (using a waterbath canner for 10 minutes) in pint jars.
Warning:
I prefer to make it outside on a Coleman-type stove. Boiling the vinegar and lemon juice in a confined area can get a little rough on the nasal passages. If you make it inside, use a deeper pot than you might normally use in order to limit the splashing of the thick liquid onto the stove top as it boils.
Modifications:
I occasionally add sesame oil, Chinese hot oil, fresh crushed garlic, onion juice, finely shredded fresh cilantro leaves, and suchlike either in various combinations.
