Teenage Survey Dangers

RKBA Defenders,

In today's USA Weekend magazine (Sun 10/17), there is the 13th annual Teen Survey, "How safe do you feel?".

Question #16 asks "Is there a gun in your home?", and 16a follows up with "If yes, can you gain access to it?".

The survey offers a prize (Disney Cruise, Guest Editor, Guest Writer, or Guest Anchor); to be eligible, you must include your name, phone number with area code, and school name and city.

Now, commercial databases are available which enable you to get the street address for every telephone number in the USA.

So, if you collect the phone numbers of every "yes" answer to question 16 and cross reference them to the phone number / street address database (an easy project for any computer programmer), what do you get?

A large list of homes with a gun in them.  The list can be sorted by zip code and distributed to organizations which could use the information for extreme anti-RKBA purposes.

The survey form is to be mailed to a PO box in Crofton, Maryland, which is in (did you smell this one coming?) the metropolitan Washington DC area (surprise!).

I would not allow a child to respond with a "yes" to #16, and would instruct them to not take the survey on-line unless they understand that the issue of gun ownership is a private matter and is not to be disclosed to anyone.
