LETTERS TO THE EDITOR COLUMN

HAVE YOU Seen The "new" Firearm Registration Certificates? The Canadian <Firearms> Centre has hit bottom as far as secure, tamper-proof firearm registration is concerned. The new certificates, which they tell you to laminate (at your own expense), are printed with black toner or ink, on ordinary 20-lb photocopy stock, and can be reproduce by any 10-year-old with a cheap text program and 10 minutes to spare. Anyone with a stolen gun can simply print one up. Unless the police or conservation officer runs each and every registration certificate he is looking at, there is no way to tell if it's authentic, particularly when laminated. This is what the taxpayer is spending $1 billion on? What a crock. Isn't it time to call it quits, run this entire farce through a "secure" paper shedder and give it a proper burial?
