I have been doing some seriously cogitation on the "why" of gun control, in particular why do we have this great push around the world for gun control laws? I finally realized that gun control exists for one thing, and one thing only. Gun control exists to make the world safe for goverments.
Gun control does not reduce crime. In fact, we can show with no trouble at all that gun control increases crime against citizens.
Gun control does not prevent gun accidents. There is no relation what so ever between the two.
Gun control does not make children safer, more healthy or more educated. You can easily prove a case that it in fact provides the opposite of all three.
Governments are about controlling things, data and fundamentally people.
Governments have killed more than 100,000,000 individuals in the 20th century
-- their own citizens. Governments, the mandarins that set policy and the
bureaucrats that execute them are determined to do all those things
that will make their tasks easier. Removing individually owned weapons
is natural to governments, because armed citizens are very messy individuals,
and are obviously out of control.
Journalists are largely drawn from the ranks of the population who believe that government is the answer to all problems, and they support government positions without even thinking.
Is it any surprise that we get the government-sponsored, mass-media-promoted Million Moms March?
